Game of Thrones inspired Facebook Cover Photos
I’ve been reading A Song of Ice and Fire which are the books for the HBO television series. They are incredible and as amazing as the tv series is, I’ve found the books better.
So I made a Facebook timeline cover photo and uploaded it to reddit where someone requested me to make another.
Hurricane Sandy plus UPDATE
I hope everyone is safe and sound, this is pretty serious and a lot bigger than Hurricane Irene. The hurricane has provided some interesting photo opportunities and it has been a challenge trying to stand still and get a decent photo. Also I borrowed a lens from a friend, it’s the Nikkor 18mm f3.5 and it’s been pretty fun and I hope to take a few more with over the next few days.
Here are some photos from today, taken of the FDR Drive on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
UPDATE: I sent some of the photos to the BBC last night and received an email from them asking for more detail. They then called me saying the photos were good and they’ll send them to people to see if they want to use them. Waking up this morning I didn’t have any emails but checked the BBC News anyway. I found this! Scroll down!
Miniature
This is tilt-shift photography, instead of using a lens for it (which are very expensive) I used Photoshop to achieve the effect.
Empire State Building in HDR
HDR photography is pretty incredible. It is very clear and looks quite strange, better than reality. The technique requires three identical photos of varying aperture so that it can catch a variety of different depths. It becomes HDR in post processing and Photoshop has a nifty feature where you open up at least 3 photos to merge into HDR. You can then play around with the settings to get different looks.
You are your own best friend
A lot of image manipulations (in fact all of them) are very creative and I like ones that are employed in an imaginative and witty way. In these pictures I took several photos with the help of a (real) friend and then pasted them together in Photoshop. It was fun to do and my friends found them funny. Hopefully you will too.
Oldies
I enjoy learning about the history of photography and the processes that developed (no pun intended) in photography over the years. These are based on wet plates or the “collodion process”.
